The “long story” (continued)…
“The Giving Creative” by Shel MelSilversteinNapoleon.
Once there was a girl, and she loved to write.
She wrote every day and everywhere. At home. At school.
She even won a Princeton University contest for a poem about Jackie Robinson.
This made her happy. And she kept writing.
But time went by, and the girl needed money.
“Take my words,” her passion for writing said, “and turn them into ads.”
So she did. She worked at places like Hill Holliday, Saatchi & Saatchi, and Monks.
She worked on accounts like Dove, WhatsApp, and Meta Quest.
But she got older and wanted a house, kids, space.
But her passion said, “GIRL, you need to move to NJ.”
So she left NY. And she was happy. But not really. It took time.
Time went by and she wanted to keep working.
But her passion said, “I’m very sorry. I have nothing left to give you.
The industry changed. Economy is shit. Robots are taking over.
Be a hybrid creative.”
So, she’s learning. She is still writing. Just with more tabs open.
Not the end.
Hi, I’m Melissa Napoleon.
Instead of writing a blurb of carefully curated fluff (facts) about how cool, punctual and nifty I am, I crowdsourced.
Bottom left: a page from my 4th grade writing journal where my classmates described me using the letters in my name.
Bottom right: former coworkers, same exercise.
All real people. No compensation involved.
